hey guys, my name is Tamsyn and I’m one of the bloggers for Dfyouth! I am 24 years old and from a little island off of the south coast of England called the Isle of Wight.
I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia at around the age of 9. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I truly understood what dyspraxia meant. As I said above, I’m 24 and my dyspraxia can still give me a bit of a hard time! As it is currently Dyspraxia Awareness Week I thought I would do a little post on how my Dyspraxia affects me.
I call myself a bit of an odd dyspraxic. I can play football, I was a keen runner in school and enjoyed trying to play netball or basketball (I say trying because I wasn’t that good at it) most people with dyspraxia can struggle with sports because of the coordination, but for some reason it didn’t affect me too much in sports. The way Dyspraxia affects me is getting the information from my brain to my mouth or hands. I have to constantly check my spelling because I can easily add an extra letter to a word without even realising it. When I’m speaking and I’m having what I call a bad day, I can badly muddle my words up. I’ve been known to say so odd sentences. My latest that made my family laugh was instead of saying “Mona Lisa” I said “lona milisa” yup. Safe to say my mum was laughing for a solid 10 mins! Certain times like that can be funny, but sometimes it can be really frustrating, especially when you’re trying to say a certain work and you just cannot get it out. But it’s all apart of the Dyspraxia journey!
So that is just a little inside on my Dyspraxic mind! I look forward to writing more posts on here in the future! 🙂
